McSame McCains’ Dangerous Choice in VP Palin August 31, 2008

Yesterday was John McCain’s 72nd birthday. If elected, he’d be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for “inexperience,” here’s who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here’s some basic background:

  • She was elected Alaska’s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
  • Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
  • She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
  • Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
  • She’s doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change.5
  • She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s “Big Oil first” energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
  • How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family.

We also asked Alaska Citizens what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here’s a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She’s a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She’s vehemently anti-choice and doesn’t care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she’s far too inexperienced to be in this position. I’m all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn’t done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain’s part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he’ll get our vote by putting “A Woman” in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She’s a global warming denier who shares John McCain’s commitment to Big Oil. And she’s dramatically inexperienced.

In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he’s made a very dangerous decision for our country.

In the next few days, many Americans will be wondering what McCain’s vice-presidential choice means. Please pass this information along to your friends and family.

Do you need more reasons for supporting Obama?  If you are still undecided or have been living in a cave in a remote mountain in a far-off land, then you should know by now where he stands.  You can always find the truth if you truly want to seek it out or you can believe the lies and one-minute spot ad attacks from McSame.

Here are just a few reasons to support Obama and make history by electing him to be our next President!

  • Obama looks to resolve problems, not place blame or prolong a fight.
  • Obama wants to get our troops out of Iraq.
  • Obama will speak with our adversaries, not threaten them.
  • Obama believes it’s time to form an international working group on refuges and increase our refugee assistance to $2 billion.
  • Obama keeps things on a positive level and doesn’t stoop to the name calling and mudslinging that other campaigns seem to offer.
  • Even when he’s hit with some of the sharpest attacks, Obama stays calm, cool and focused.
  • The first law Obama passed with Republican Tom Coburn allowed every American to go online to see where every tax dollar was being spent by the government.
  • As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Senator Obama fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised.
  • Obama is not afraid to speak his mind.
  • Obama has come to the defense of Israel over and over again supporting not only the Israeli democracy but also their inherent God-given right to exist.
  • As president, Obama will preserve Social Security by stopping efforts to privatize it.
  • Obama will amend bankruptcy law to keep companies from filing Chapter 11 in order to avoid obligations, such as pensions, to their workers.
  • Obama wants to eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 a year.
  • Obama wants to help seniors get the medicines they need by closing the “doughnut hole” in the Medicare prescription drug program.
  • Obama opposed the Iraqi War from the start and he has a plan to responsibly end the war by immediately pulling out troops engaged in combat operations and pressure the Iraqi government to reconcile.
  • Obama will sign legislation by the end of his first term in office that will provide quality, affordable and portable health care to every American citizen.
  • Obama will restore fairness to the tax code and provide +150 million workers with a tax cut, including a new tax credit worth $5000 per worker.
  • Obama will work to increase investment in early childhood education and reform and fund No Child Left Behind.
  • Obama wants to make college affordable for every American and believes he can accomplish that aim by expanding grant aid and reforming federal student loans to fee up more money for student aid.
  • Obama strongly supports the most aggressive cap-and-trade approach to achieve 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emission by the year 2050.
  • Obama is a co-sponsor and strong advocate of the Employee Free Choice Act, a bipartisan effort to make unionization process more transparent and increase penalties on companies that violate employee rights.
  • Obama supports the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act, which would provide safety workers the rights to bargain collectively.
  • Obama opposes the efforts to roll back the Fair Labor Standards Act, including proposals that allow employers to use comp time, whereby employees who work longer than 40 hours a week get additional vacation time, instead of getting overtime pay.
  • Obama has joined union efforts to get Wal-Mart and other large employers to improve working conditions, wages and health coverage.
  • Obama stands firm against agreements like the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) that fail to live up to improved labor and environmental standards.
  • Obama will make long-term investments in education, training and workforce development so that Americans can leverage our strength — our ingenuity and entrepreneurism — to create new high-wage jobs and prosper in world economy.
  • Obama wants to create a 10 percent universal mortgage credit to provide homeowners who do not itemize tax relief.
  • Obama’s STOP FRAUD Act provides the first federal definition of mortgage fraud, increases funding for federal and state law enforcement programs, creates new criminal penalties for mortgage professionals found guilty of fraud, and requires industry insiders to report suspicious activity.
  • Obama proposes a program called a Homeowner Obligation Made Explicit (HOME) score, to provide potential borrowers with a simplified, standardized borrower metric (similar to APR) for home mortgages.
  • Obama supports creating a fund to help people refinance their mortgages and provide comprehensive supports to innocent homeowners.
  • Obama will work to eliminate provisions that prevent bankruptcy courts from modifying an individual’s mortgage payments.
  • Obama will establish a Credit Card Bill of Rights to stop credit card companies from exploiting consumers with unfair practices.
  • Obama has spoken about improving the quality of health care for veterans, rebuilding the VA hospital system and combating homelessness among veterans.
  • Obama will also pass the Fair Pay Act to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work.
  • Obama believes in strengthening federal hate crimes legislation and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice’s Criminal Section.
  • Obama will sign into law his legislation that establishes harsh penalties for those who have engaged in voter fraud and provides voters who have been misinformed with accurate and full information so they can vote.
  • Obama will ban racial profiling by federal law enforcement agencies and provide federal incentives to state and local police departments to prohibit the practice.
  • Obama also supports a prison-to-work incentive program to improve ex-offender employment and job retention rates.
  • Obama believes the disparity between sentencing crack and powder-based cocaine is wrong and should be completely eliminated.
  • Obama will give first-time, non-violent offenders a chance to serve their sentence, where appropriate, in the type of drug rehabilitation programs that have proven to work better than a prison term in changing bad behavior.
  • Obama will fight to ensure that pubic contracts are awarded to companies committed to American workers.
  • Obama will raise the minimum wage, index it to inflation, and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers have a fair wage.
  • Obama supports investing in effective bridge and transitional job programs to help unemployment and entry-level workers reach full-time employment, living-wage employment.
  • John McCain.

If you think the last eight years has been great – If you think the economy is doing just great – If you believe America should be able to torture – If you don’t mind big government listening in on your calls – if you believe the rest of the world just loves us – If you believe we should start more wars – If you believe in not helping or supporting our maimed troops or helping families that lost their sons and daughters to war – If you think you are better off now then you ever were before – then John McSame is your man.

If you happen to live in reality – Obama is the only one to bring true change!  Vote OBAMA this November to bring America back to the greatness that it once was!
